Hey, we're ready to roll! I painted four figures in just a few hours to show what can be done with a few colors of paint and some patience. Check 'em out! Ignore the broken picture link and some latin dummy text Eventually this will be the start of a massive gallery of Mage Knight repaints. Hopefully, in time, we'll have tons of figures, enough where we can split the figures into their own seperate faction galleries. Check back often to see our progress!
Update 08/28/04:
Added some new figs, Check 'em out!

Werewolf "Awooo!" It's a hairy drooling monstrosity, with sharp clwas and bad breath. A lot like every blind date I've ever been on, actually. Chaos Black mixed with Codex Grey were used for the fur. Additional amounts of Codex Grey were added to the mix and drybrushed over the fur in successively lighter coats. Beastial Brown highlighted with Vermin Brown were used for the leather straps and exposed skin. The lighter areas were hit up with Bubonic Brown, then Bleached Bone. The model is a veteran three star figure, so I wanted a little red. Still, he's a dark and moody figure so a bright red wouldn't work. Instead, I used Scab Red highlighted with Red Gore for the loincloth. Blood Red mixed with Skull White (Tentacle Pink is too watery) was used on the gums to make the teeth stand out. Finally Boltgun Metal was used on the metal areas, making my werewolf way kewler than that movie with Michael J. Fox.

Ki Devil Hey it's a Devil! Of Ki! Um... yeah. Anyway, even though it's not a three-star figure, I still though it should be red. Cuz demons are red. It's like a rule or something. But not bright red like a cartoon, a dark moody red. Unfortunately the scanner came out a bit dark so it sucks to be me. Anyway, the figure was basecoated with Dark Flesh, which is a reddish-brown color. Nextcame additional Highlight of Scab Red and Red Gore. Finally a small amount of Blood Red for the veining on the wings. The eyes were hit up with Fiery Orange and Bestial Brown, Bubonic Brown and Bleached Bone were used for the bone bits, including the teeth and some bony nipples.

Nightblade Never one to fear NOW, the sculptors Wizkids proves the chainmail bikini isn't dead and sets back women's lib by about two decades with the Nightblade. Can you say, "Target Demographic?" Sure ya can! On the flipside, women complain about unrealistic women in comics, oblivious to the fact that the men are just as chiseled. Comic book artists need to draw the same figure a million times over, so you're usually drawn in form fitting costumes. Keeping that in mind, I decided to paint this figure in a marginally more realistic form-fitting out fit. All the fleshy bits were painted blue (this figure is Standard) and the black leather straps were painted with Boltgun Metal. The figure is a two-star figure, so she should be blue. Normally I don't really care about stars, but I need an extra color for the trim, so blue works. Still, she's evil like that, so I chose dark, almost purple blue. This figure uses Midnight Blue and Storm Blue to make up the clothing (or lack thereof) and some Shining Gold for the sword hilt. Bestial Brown, Bubonic Brown and Bleached Bone were used for the skulls on her shoulder pads.

Living Elemental A supreme being made up of elemental forces. Kinda like Captain Planet, but not incredibly gay. At first I thought this guy was breaking free of the ground, but no, that would make him an Earth/Rock Elemental. No, he's actually busting free from tree. Too bad I didn't realize that until after I finished painting the figure. Oops. Hey, at least I didn't kill anybody, right? Anyway the "tree" bits were painted with Scorched Brown, highlighted with Dark Flesh, and highlighted with a small amount of Bestial Brown. The makes a more reddish earth tone. If I had to do it over again, I would have painted it Scorched Brown, highlighted with Bestial Brown, highlighted with Snakebite Leather, and then a small amount of Bleached Bone. The teeth are Bestial Brown, highlighted with Bubonic Brown, and highlighted with Bleached Bone. Finally the skin. I wanted him green, but not green like the Incredible Hulk, or even worse, bright green like Captain Planet. I wanted a living, sparkly green. So I used DecoArt's Crystal Green from their Dazzling Metallics series. You can get it at Michael's craft store The scan came out dark, but take my word for it, he's swanky. Or as swanky as a Mage Knight models gets. Which leads us to one final lesson kids; Don't paint shitty models! The power is yours!

Leech Medic Medic! Oh come on, you know you have to say it. Well, this model doesn't really look much like a medic. Painted black she could just as easily be an assasin. Or you could replace the dagger with a spear and user her as for the new "Healer" class from the D&D Miniatures Handbook. Sadly, this model's arm broke off on the way back from Kinko's. That's where I plonk down my hard earned cash, just to keep you jabronis happy. Anyway, since this model is a medic, I painted her tunic in white. I considered adding some Red Gore and Blood Red to make her look like she's been working in the field, but decided against it - there's not enough space to paint it on. I could have painted the gloves and boots white, but picked a neutral brown/leather color instead. Since this model is a one-star figure, I gave her blong hair to represent the yellow.

Imp Hey, it's an imp! That's about all you can say about this figure. It fucking sucks. I painted it yellow cuz it's a one-star figure and it looks like complete ass. I painted the rock in a lighter sandstone-like color to balance it out, and since the figure was so light, I kept the rock extremely dark - Scorched Brown with Dark Flesh highlights. This fig would look better in any color, other than yellow.

Pegasus KnightThis fig came straight out the booster with his sword bent, which made it that much easier to throw it on the scanner. To start, I painted damn near the entire model with a basecoat of Bestial Brown. That was followed up by Vermin Brown and Blached Bone mixed Sunburst Yellow for the hair. This model is a one-star figure, so I decided to include lots of gold trim and blond hair. Burnished Gold was painted over the brown and tidied up with lots of Chaos Black everywhere else. Finally Boltgun Metal, Chainmail and Mithril Silver were added to the armor bits to look extra shiny and regal. Finally, I gotta say, WTF is up with this model's feet?! He looks like he's on hooves or something. I know these are Mage Knight figures so they're not the best, but damn, it looks like the sculptors were given a budget of pocket lint and food stamps to make this...

Skeleton Ah... "Skeleton." Cab't get uch simpler than that. Not "Skeleton Warrior" or "Skeleton Fighter," just, "Skeleton." Well, despite the name, they actually did a great job sculpting this thing. They retired the giant goofy skeletons from the original MKR set, and added this one, which is in scale, and actually has some detail. They even added a cloak. So painting this fig was a breeze. Slather Bestial Brown all over and mix with Vermin Brown to highlight. Mix in a small amount of Bleached Bone to hit up the edges of the cloak. Drybrush more Bleached Bone over the Skeleton itself. Finally, I hiot up the armor bits with Tin Bitz and a very light drybrush of Boltgun Metal. Truth be told, I liked this figure with just the Tin Bitz, and not the Boltgun Metal. The orangey color of Tin Bitz, matches the rest of the color scheme perfectly. I may change it back...

Steam Golem Chug chug chug... Honestly, the Steam Golem has got to be one of the kewlest figures in the Mage Knight range, and I think it rivals some of the big warjack models made by Privateer Press for their Iron Kingdoms WARMACHINE game. Really! I'm always lookin for spares for other painting projects If anyone out there has some extras from the Mage Knght Metal opr Mage Knight Painter's Edition range, e-mail me. And don't be e-mailing me with offers for the cheap plastic ones, I only want the good ones! Anyway, such a great model deserves a swanky paint scheme. I figured I wanted the model to look like a cast-iron stove; big, mean, imposing, and ready to fuck you up good. A basecoat of Tin Bitz was slathered all over the place, making sure I got into all the cracks and crevices. Boltgun Metal was lighly drybrushed over the entire model t pick out the fantastic detail. Successive coats touched up areas, but left a good amount of Tin Bitz showing. The problem is knowing when to stop. It basically depend on how you want your Steam Golem to look; Showroom fresh, or dark and dirty? I picked dark and dirty, witha good amount of soot thrown in. Chaos Black was stipled along the smoke stack and other areas. Once it started to look too dark, I went over it again with Boltgun Metal. It's all about trial and error. The only bit I kept clean-looking was the sword, where I added a bit of Chainmail to the mix to make the sword seem clean(er) and extra-choppy. Finally a bit of Skull White was carefully painted on the "eyes" gun and smoke stack. Blood Red was painted over that, mixed with Fiery Orange to highlight. Later, I considered adding some snow along the top of the carapace, since I plan on painting a bunch of Blackpowder Rebels ina hinterland snow camo. Eventually I decided against it. I think it looks great just the way it is!
